Fresh herbs and spices provide meals with cultural distinction and flavor. But did you know that they could also add extra nutritional value to food?

At Nicobella Organics we are all about adding nutrient rich ingredients to our 70% dark chocolate. For our special holiday truffle, we reached for the spice rack.

Listed below are three little spices with a lot of personality. Read why we picked them for our Holiday Spice Truffles:

Turmeric is known for its earthy flavor. Its very distinct vibrant orange color leaves anything it touches orange. It has been found in many studies to prevent and slow the growth of a variety of types of cancer, including tumors of the esophagus, mouth, intestines, stomach, breast, and skin. Throughout the world it is know as a natural relief to joint pain and stiffness caused by arthritis.

Did you know that cinnamon has the ability to lessen sugars impact on blood sugar levels, reducing the rise in blood sugar after eating? This makes it especially beneficial for individuals with type II diabetes. It is also an excellent source of fiber and contains manganese, calcium and trace minerals.

Cayenne, like all chili peppers, contains capsaicin. Capsaicin gives peppers burn-your-mouth-heat and makes them beneficial to the body’s inflammatory processes. Beta-carotene, which gives peppers a bright red color, is essential for healthy tissues including the membranes that line the nasal passages, lungs, intestinal tract and urinary tract. Some studies did find a link between cayenne and an Increase in metabolism and a decrease in appetite.

Our Holiday Spice Truffles last from October through March, so make sure you don’t miss out!

  • The combination of the three spices certainly caught my attention!! The health benefits that you mentioned are only some of the known benefits of turmeric, cinnamon, and cayenne!!! I'll have to try some of these truffles - perhaps as an after dinner treat with the family on Thanksgiving Day!!!
